HIGHTOWN Praetorian & Churches Housing Association are pleased to announce that 78 new affordable homes will be built in Park Street, St Albans this year.

The homes are part of the housing development being undertaken by Bellway Homes and Barratt Homes on the former Kwiksave warehouse site.

Within the affordable housing part of the development, there are 28 homes for general rent consisting of family houses and apartments, 40 shared ownership homes consisting of three, two and one bedroom apartments and 10 apartments for rent to key workers.

The homes will be completed in phases with the first phase ready in September 2008 and the rest of the homes completing in winter 2009.

David Bogle, Chief Executive of Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Bellway Homes to provide seventy eight much-needed affordable homes in Park Street.

“The development is in a popular area with excellent travel links to London, Watford and St Albans City centre. We are most grateful to St. Albans Council and to the Housing Corporation for their support for this excellent scheme, which will help local people in housing need to obtain a home at an affordable rent and also provide an opportunity for others to get onto the property ladder. Our key worker homes will help public service employers to recruit local people to fill essential jobs in teaching, health, the police and the fire services”

Hightown Praetorian and Churches is a local charitable housing association providing home and services to people who cannot afford to rent or buy at market prices.
