Brook Streets fundraising gives Open Door a welcome start to the New Year

04.01.2008

This Christmas leading recruitment specialist Brook Street has been supporting a local charity, Open Door.

As a result of their suppliers donating raffle prizes for the staff Christmas party, making weekly ‘jeans day’ contributions and relinquishing all Christmas cards to clients in favour of giving more money to the charity, the generous gift has reached £2,000 so far and they are still raising more.

The charity, located in St Albans is an emergency night shelter and daytime drop in centre. Every night of the year Open Door provide homeless adults access to a safe warm bed, a hot meal, bathing and laundry facilities plus a range of other services.

Open Door relies heavily on donations and volunteers to help them deliver the best service possible to everyone who uses the facilities.  Several members of Brook Street staff also volunteered to help at the centre.

In order to further support Open Door food items have been collected in the Head Office internet cafe to donate to the shelter.

Brook Street human resources director, Ron Napper said: “Brook Street is delighted to be able to support Open Door in their mission to provide shelter and support for homeless and vulnerable adults in the local community.  Christmas is a time when many of us think about giving to charities however Open Door does need this continued support year round”.

Margaret Lewis, Chair of the Open Door Trust added: “This donation is a wonderful start to the New Year and I would like to thank all the staff at Brook Street for their superb fundraising efforts. For the Night Shelter and Drop in Day Service to operate we need to raise £75,000 a year, this donation has given us a great start.

“The Open Door night shelter offers 16 beds every night of the year to homeless people in the area. For the night shelter to operate we rely on fundraising and donations. This donation from Brook Street is fantastic but we still need more donations and for people to volunteer at the shelter. If you are able to help us then please contact us.”
