No new affordable homes for Evelyn Close, Wing

24.01.2012

Hightown Praetorian and Churches Housing Association will now carry out works to an empty house in Evelyn Close, Wing to bring it back into use for the next 10 – 15 years. The property has been empty while Hightown sought planning permission to redevelop the site to provide four new affordable homes. However a recent Planning Inspector’s decision has put paid to this proposal.

Chief Executive of Hightown, David Bogle, said “We are disappointed to have lost the opportunity to build additional new affordable homes for local people at Evelyn Close but we now have to accept the current planning position. I know that this will be welcome news for some residents and perhaps a disappointment for others who had expressed an interest in moving to new homes.”

Hightown is working hard to deliver more affordable housing to meet increased housing demand arising from current economic conditions. A large number of local authorities are seeing an increase in the number of homeless people. 2012 will be a record year for the housing association as it will build 581 new affordable homes in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

In addition to these 581 homes to be built during 2012, Hightown has a further 500 affordable homes in its development pipeline.
