Business was brisk for a new fruit and veg stall which opened for business last Tuesday - making healthy eating more affordable to residents of London Colney.
The new stall has been set up in response to demand from local residents and is part of a healthy living initiative called ENERGY. As well as making fruit and veg easily available, the ENERGY project includes cookery courses for parents, and sport and healthy living classes for local school children.
Local resident Sian Bull said "I think this scheme is a really great idea, especially as the stall is next to the Children's Centre. I know when my daughter was very little the last thing on my mind was to go shopping for fruit and vegetables so this will definitely help both mummies and babies. I shall certainly be back".
Many local residents have been given vouchers so they can buy a bowl of fruit/veg at half price – just 50p. Fresh fruit and veg will be available from the Children’s Centre in Alexander Road, London Colney every Tuesday (9.00 – 10.00 and 3.00 – 4.00) during term time.
ENERGY is being jointly run and funded by a partnership of local organisations including Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing Association, St Albans City & District Council, the London Colney Children’s Centre, St Albans Sport & Health Development Team, Leisure Connection and NHS Hertfordshire.
