Residents are settling into their new affordable rented homes in Albanwood, off Newhouse Crescent in Watford following their recent completion for Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing Association (Hightown).
The new development comprises a mix of two and three-bedroom affordable houses to rent. Seven homes are being rented to residents nominated by Watford Borough Council’s Choice Based Lettings scheme. Two houses are available for intermediate rent - a subsidised rent to help people to save for a deposit to purchase a home of their own.
The site off Newhouse Crescent, previously occupied by Albanwood Junior School, has been developed by Hightown at a cost of £1.521 million, with £464,000 support from the Homes and Communities Agency.
The development provides much needed affordable housing – so significantly contributing to Watford Borough Council’s Housing Strategy. To mark the completion of the project, the Chairman of Watford Borough Council, Councillor Alan Burtenshaw visited the site on Thursday 11 November. Councillor Burtenshaw said “This is a wonderful development, which works very well. The new residents have a fantastic environment with many amenities nearby. I hope they will be happy in their new homes and I look forward to meeting them.”
David Bogle, Chief Executive of Hightown, said: “We are pleased to be able to provide these additional high quality homes for local residents, in partnership with Watford Borough Council.”
Jackie Rose, Area Manager for the Homes & Communities Agency in Hertfordshire said: “I am delighted that through its investment and skills the HCA has enabled Watford Borough Council to address the housing needs of the local community. These homes provide much needed family homes for rent in the town.”
