The new homes are the result of a partnership between Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing Association (Hightown), Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) and PCHA, part of Genesis Housing Group.

The former tenants of Girtin Road, Bushey are now settled into their 11 individual flats at Stainton Court, where Hightown provide 24 hour support.  PCHA developed the Farrington Avenue site at a cost of £25.5 million, with a grant for around £49,000 for each unit from the Homes and Communities Agency.

The new apartments provide residents with their own flats including a kitchen, sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. There is also a communal living room for all to use. The residents have been involved throughout the process including choosing their own colour schemes, flooring and kitchens and are extremely pleased with their new homes.

Prior to the move, residents lived in shared flats which meant they had little privacy and could not choose who they lived with. The old building will now be demolished to make way for more affordable housing. The regeneration of Bushey is expected to be completed by July 2011, delivering a total of 190 homes.

Councillor Hayward said “Hertfordshire County Council is delighted to work closely with Hightown in the provision of homes throughout the county. The standards achieved at Stainton Court are first class – at the end of the day providing good housing as Hightown does is all about people. It is clear to me that the quality of life the residents of Stainton Court will enjoy is excellent. We look forward to cooperating with Hightown in the future.”

David Bogle, Chief Executive of Hightown, said: “We are pleased to be able to provide facilities which enable the service users to develop their independence, in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council and PCHA.”

Olu Olanrewaju, Managing Director of PCHA, said: “This is a great facility which will provide a big benefit for those vulnerable people who need to be able to access skills and support. All the partners involved should be congratulated for their work to deliver this vital service and I look forward to seeing the continued regeneration of the area.”
