The Easter bunny came dressed in leather, on a motorbike as Stevenage & District Motorcycle Club rolled into Hemel Hempstead last Sunday to deliver Easter eggs for all the children at a Women’s Refuge run by Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing Association (Hightown).
Revving the engines of their Triumphs, Yamahas, and Kawasakis to name a few, they created quite a spectacle as they rode through Hemel Hempstead on their way to Hightown’s new offices on Maylands Avenue.
This is the sixth year that the bikers have donated Easter Eggs to the Stevenage & North Herts Women’s Refuge, one of Hightown’s supported housing schemes for women and children affected by domestic violence. In doing so, they help put smiles on the faces of the many children living at the Refuge with their mothers, helping them to enjoy and celebrate Easter.
The Women’s Refuge in Stevenage provides safe shelter for women and children who are affected by domestic violence. The Refuge provides accommodation for up to 25 women and children. An all-female team are on hand to provide access to information, support and advice for women using the refuge. All women staying at the refuge are allocated a link worker who provides assistance. Hightown’s aim is to support women as they take control of their lives. The needs of children affected by domestic violence are recognised and addressed as a key element of our work with families.
The Motorcycle Club have been around since1960 and carry out the ‘Easter Egg run’ every year.
