Now that Spring has arrived, if you are treating yourself to any new gardening tools, the Young People’s Housing Service (YPHS) would like to offer a home to your old ones.
Having been given an allotment by Dacorum Borough Council, the 16 – 22 year olds at YPHS are keen to start growing their own fruit and vegetables. All they need are your cast off garden tools and any spare seedlings to get their allotment started.
By learning how to grow and cook food for themselves, the allotment will become part of a healthy eating initiative. Involvement on the allotment will also help the young people to develop their team skills, and prepare them for living independently.
Operated by Hightown Praetorian and Churches Housing Association (HPCHA), the Young People’s Housing Service provides housing and support to 16 – 22 year olds, enabling them to become independent, autonomous and take responsibility for their own lives. Most residents move on, having achieved this, within two years.
If you have any tools (however old) or seedlings you can spare, then please call Tracey Halls on 01442 215643.
