Hightown Young Peoples Housing Service (YPHS) held a Fashion Show on Saturday 4th October at Frances Combe School in Watford. The event was organised jointly by Herts Youth Service and HPCHA.
The idea for a fashion show came from the young residents of Hightown as a way to participate in events after being unable to attend their local youth clubs. They planned, organised, practiced as models and made clothes to raise money for charity which they decided would be the National Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
The Project began in January this year, and everybody involved met once a week to plan and monitor progress for the Show.
The clothes were modified and cleverly redesigned from existing jeans, skirts, tops and trousers and turned into some really funky clothing items.
The models included the youth who organized it along with staff from Herts Youth Service and staff from Hightown including the Chief Executive of Hightown, David Bogle.
Sally Phipps, fundraising manager for the NSPCC came to Hightown on 4th December to award the YPHS and young residents with thank you certificates and to collect the cheque.
She said "it is great to hear about young people supporting other young people and raising this wonderful amount of money. Thanks to the hard work put in by the group and staff at HPCHA and Herts Youth Service, the NSPCC can be there to support other young people at difficult times of their lives".
