Residents of the mother and baby service are helped to develop independent living skills

Mother & baby service

Hightown's  Mother & Baby services in Dacorum and St Albans provide accommodation and support to women aged 16 - 25 who are either pregnant, or who have a child up to 12 months of age.

All accommodation is self-catering, fully furnished and centrally heated.  In each location there is a range of shared areas and facilities. Residents are encouraged to fully participate in the planning and running of scheme activities, and to be involved in the recruitment and selection of staff.  Regular resident meetings are also held at the service to encourage tenant involvement and feedback.

All residents are encouraged to work closely with their allocated support worker to develop independent living skills in areas such as:

  • Parenting
  • Daily living skills
  • Housing options
  • Budgeting/money management
  • Health and well-being

Residents sign up to a Licence Agreement and are supported to apply for housing benefit to help with the cost of the rent. The service charge payable is dependent upon the individual’s income.
