The staff team at Evelyn Close had the idea to get the people we support and staff of Hightown’s Winslow services involved in a pantomime. People liked the idea and chose Cinderella. Everyone was involved in writing the script which included some up to date references and funny twists on the traditional story. Rehearsals were as regularly as possible and gave the opportunity for everyone to get together.
Volunteers and local businesses donated their time and services to help with costumes, make-up and props. Staff and the people we support were involved in selling tickets for the Wing Hall Venue and sold almost 150 tickets!
As well as the performance, on the night services users sang Christmas carols during scene changes, Father Christmas gave presents to young children and there was a raffle during the interval. The night went really well and everyone enjoyed themselves. There were many compliments from the audience and families. The great news is that everyone agreed that they would like to do it again next year.
Service users said that it was hard work and some suffered from stage fright on the night, but with the support of their newly developed friendships and the staff they conquered their fears. Performing in the pantomime brought everyone together and have all become good friends.
The money raised is being used for an evening meal and entertainment for the people involved in the production. This enables those living in different areas to be able to see the friends they made during the production again.
