Martin House

Martin House

Martin House provides accommodation and support for single homeless men over the age of 25, with health issues, social needs or drink problems. The hostel is located in St Albans City Centre and is within easy access of statutory and voluntary agencies.

There continues to be great demand on the services offered by Martin House, with residents being referred from the Open Door emergency night shelter in Bricket Road, the probation service and the council.

The objective is to support people to the point of them being able to live independently. This support comes in many forms depending on the needs of the resident, but could include practical day-to-day support, help seeking work, counselling or putting them in touch with third party specialist services such as the Drug Centre. The success rate depends on the availability of suitable accommodation.

"I now have my own flat and I am making it homely for my future life. My last few days at Martin House  I was constantly telling the staff that I could not have moved without their support."

"Martin House helped me to get my benefits and to see a GP who supported me through my depression. I was supported to get voluntary work in a charity shop (which I still do), and am now living in my own flat - I could not have done it all without the help I received from Martin House."
