Service users can spend Christmas at our homelessness service

Homeless services

Hightown manages Open Door, the homelessness service in St Albans, in addition to three services for homeless people who are having difficulty finding accommodation and who have some support needs. These services provide a safe, caring environment for residents, along with support and advice to give them the necessary social and life skills to move on to independent living:

  • Open Door, St Albans - homelessness service including an emergency night shelter in St Albans
  • Kent House, St Albans - caters for single people and couples over the age of 18

"Having hit rock bottom, with the help of staff at Kent House I have been able to build up my relationship with my family and am determined to reach my ulitimate goal, to be abstinent from consuming alcohol."

  • Martin House, St Albans - caters for single men over the age of 25

"I am very grateful for all the support I received. Thanks to Martin House my life is back on track and I still have support from my partner and can see my child again. I can now move on with my life as I feel more confident and have a positive future."

  • Mably House, Hatfield – has 35 self-contained flats for people in the Welwyn & Hatfield area

"Since moving to Mably House I feel I have come on leaps and bounds. I work once a week on a voluntary basis at a community cafe and have a paid job teaching young people daily living skills. I still have a way to go, but I do not dread the future like I used to."
