Stevenage Women's Refuge
Hightown has a women's refuge in Stevenage where we offer safe, temporary accomodation for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. We can accomodate up to nine families at any one time.
Our all-female team are available to provide support and access to information to women whilst they are in refuge.
All women in refuge are allocated a Support Worker to assist with things like benefits, local facilities, health and future housing options. Our goal is to empower women to move on with their lives. We also have a Child Support Worker who will assist with accessing schools for children in refuge and with addressing the needs of children during their stay.
Stevenage Women's Refuge can be contacted at:

From the women who have moved on:
"Thank you everyone for giving my girls and I a roof and a shoulder and the time to rest my mind and grow strong again...you do come out the other end, promise, and have a whole life ahead of you where you make the choices..."
"I would like to thank all the friendly faces, comforting words and smiles that have helped me and my children get through a really difficult time. With the support of people who work everyday to help others, you realise when a person is forced into leaving their home with only a handful of belongings…… you are never truly alone."
"To all the women .. be strong, you are doing the right thing. Be motivated, confident, build your self-esteem. I know you never see the light until you get out of the tunnel. The staff are super supportive and care they are there for you. Just focus on the right thing and you will get there in the end."
"Thank you all for helping me realise it’s not my fault. I felt guilty when I first came. Now I feel positive and ready to face things on my own..."
