Community Meeting Point Harpenden provides services to people who are suffering from, or who have experienced mental health problems.
Community Meeting Point (CMP) is based in Bowers Parade, Harpenden. It provides a number of facilities and resources for occupation, recreation and education. This helps to develop self-confidence, increase skills and in some cases, increase employment prospects.
CMP was formed in 1990 by two local couples, both of whom had sons suffering from long term mental health problems. Their vision was to provide a facility in partnership with Social Services, the Healthcare Trust and the Voluntary Sector. This vision was successfully achieved by 1994. Today a team of 6 staff members and some 30 volunteers run the centre.
CMP is a registered charity and relies heavily on fundraising activities and charitable donations. It is envisaged that over time, CMP will form a link with Renaissance Aylesbury and work more closely together sharing best practice and ideas.
Through a varied programme of group activities CMP delivers social and life skills training. CMP also uses recreational, educational and social opportunities to enhance personal development.
The Business and Training centre operates for three days per week. Through the use of sub- contracted, light industrial work the centre provides users with practical work experience and instils work discipline techniques, as well as core office skills training.
